Before attending seminary, Elly worked as an Associate at Episcopal Relief & Development in NYC for 5 years. She served on both the Global Programs team and the US Disaster team during her tenure. Prior to that, Elly worked as the Director of Faith Formation at St James Episcopal Church in Hendersonville, North Carolina. In this role, she led and organized church programs for adults, youth and children. She also served in the Young Adult Service Corps through the Episcopal Church (YASC). In this position, she traveled throughout the country of Panamá and led workshops with indigenous and rural farmers. It was through YASC that she met Rev. Tim who served in South Africa at this same time!

Elly graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a degree in Spanish and Global Studies. She is married to Aditya Kumar and they have a dog named Pookiebear who Elly describes as “10 pounds of pure love”.
