Pastoral Care

Pastoral Care at Christ Church Greenwich provides spiritual support to people and their families who are facing illness, loss, or other stressful situations. Pastoral Care is the heart of CCG, where we live out the command to love one another as Christ has loved us.

If You Are In Need…

If you or a family member is facing an illness, hospitalization, death; or any other stressful life situation, please consider a Zoom or phone call or a personal visit from one of our clergy or trained lay volunteers.

To schedule a visit, please contact Jean Tredinnick in the Parish Office, 203.869.6600, x13.  Jean can also place your name on the list of people who receive prayers during our worship services and/or give your name to a group of people who will pray for you.

Would you like to volunteer for Pastoral Care?

Lay parishioners are a vital component of CCG’s commitment to making sure that church members feel supported in times of need. The Book of Common Prayer states that the ministers of the Church are lay persons [as well as], bishops, priests and deacons.

Pastoral Care Opportunities

  • Eucharistic Visits

Trained parishioners bring Holy Communion to parishioners who cannot get to church. It’s a privilege and a spirit-filled moment to share a brief liturgy and communion with someone isolated or frail. You don’t have to know the Bible or have any specific education to be a Eucharistic visitor. All that’s required is a willingness to extend our parish’s Eucharistic community to include the person being visited. Training is provided.

  • Intercessory Prayer Team

When we get requests for prayer, our team is notified and prayers begin throughout the week. In addition, we’ll check in on you or your relative to see how they are doing.

When something urgent comes up, our team will “Stop, Drop and Pray.”

  • Worship Leaders

Worship Leaders are parishioners who have done a simple training in leading services for the elderly and who enjoy being with people. Training, including ECCT Safe Church training ,is required.

The Nathaniel Witherell: Twice a month a parishioner leads a Sunday service at this town-owned, skilled nursing facility. Our Morning Prayer service is the only Sunday service at the facility.

River House Adult Day Center: On Wednesday mornings, a parishioner leads a 1/2 hour Morning Prayer service at River House in Cos Cob.

  • Loaves of Love

Parishioners drop off home-baked cookies and treats, and volunteers put them in festive boxes, and deliver them to homebound parishioners or those in need of a little cheer. Treat Boxes go out for Christmas, Valentine’s Day, Easter, and Fall/Back to School.

  • Caring Hands and Birthday Cards

Volunteers send cards to parishioners — birthdays, sympathy, get well, support, thinking of you, and congratulations for marriages, births and graduations.

Pastoral Care Testimonials

“Come, inherit the kingdom prepared for you, for I was hungry and you gave me food; I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink; I was a stranger and you welcomed me; I was naked and you gave me clothing; I was sick and you took care of me; I was in prison and you visited me.”  Then the righteous will answer him, “Lord when was it that we saw you hungry and gave you food, or thirsty and gave you something to drink?  And when was it that we saw you a stranger and welcomed you, or naked and gave you clothing? And when was it that we saw you sick and took care of you or in prison and visited you?”  And he will answer them, “Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.”
