Boys’ Choir

Founded in 1934, the Christ Church Choir of Men and Boys (for boys in grades 3-8) is among only a handful of established choral programs for men and boys in the United States.

What are the Music Program Requirements?

New (novice) boys (usually 3rd – 6th graders) rehearse on Tuesday from 4:30 until 5:30 pm, and on Thursday from 4:30 through dinner at 6:30 pm. Older, non-novice boys rehearse Tuesday from 5:00 pm until 6:30 pm, and on Thursday from 4:30 pm through dinner until 8:00 pm. If a chorister must miss a rehearsal, a makeup rehearsal is held on Friday from 4:30 pm to 5:45 pm. All rehearsals include recess during which boys play supervised sports, a popular activity that further strengthens the bonds between them. Boys are members of the Choir of Men & Boys through the 8th grade, or until their voices change, after which point they can join the Teen Choir.

What are the Responsibilities of a Boy Chorister?

Boy choristers are responsible for attending rehearsals twice a week, and singing Sunday morning services at 11:15 am during the school year. Choristers are also expected to sing for Evensongs, concerts and tours. Choristers are not required to sing during school holidays, although boys earn a bonus allowance for participation. More broadly, choristers are responsible for contributing positively to the communal atmosphere of the choir through behavior that supports the group and shows respect for their fellow choristers.
