“I was glad when they said unto me, ‘Let us go to the house of the Lord’…” (Psalm 122.1)
Christian worship gives glory to God, through Jesus Christ, in the power of the Holy Spirit. In offering to God a sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving, we find ourselves inspired, transformed, and empowered to serve the world in the name of the risen Christ. Worship flows from a spirit of gratitude and grace; it is the song that our grateful hearts return to our good and faithful Creator.
At Christ Church Greenwich, our worship is grounded in the very best of our Anglican tradition, according to the liturgies of The Book of Common Prayer (1979). As we pray and celebrate using the words of the Prayer Book, we join together with other Episcopal parishes around the United States, as well as with other Christians around the world who trace their spiritual heritage to the Church of England and the earliest version of The Book of Common Prayer (1549).
In its wide variety of liturgies, the Prayer Book shapes and supports both our communal life together and our individual experience of faith. Some services, including Daily Morning and Evening Prayer, can be offered by both individuals and congregations. Clergy and many lay people use the liturgy of the Daily Office to shape their personal disciplines of prayer and study each day. From September through May, our Curate leads Evening Prayer in the Church Tuesday through Friday at 4:30. The liturgy for Evening Prayer forms the foundation of the popular, beautiful service called Evensong, which is offered by one of the many choirs at Christ Church Greenwich on the third Sunday of every month at 5:00 pm. Other services, such as the Eucharist, Baptism, Marriage, Confirmation, Burial, and Ordination, are celebrations offered by the whole community together. These liturgies are opportunities for us to come together as a congregation to praise God for his grace and mercy, to offer thanks, to mark important moments in individual lives, and to be strengthened by the Holy Spirit.
We are blessed that at Christ Church Greenwich, the words of our prayers and the richness of our liturgical life are enhanced by several outstanding choirs. Excellent music has always played an important part in Anglican worship, and our Choir of Men and Boys, St. Cecilia Choir of Girls, St. Nicholas Choir, Christ Church Singers, Christ Church Consort, Compline Singers, and Bell Choir all continue that great tradition of praise through song.
We warmly invite you to join us for worship. Come take part in the rhythm of prayer and praise, raise your voice in gratitude or supplication, enjoy a quiet moment for reflection and rest, and glorify God with us. It is our prayer that, through the worship offered at Christ Church Greenwich, you will receive nourishment for your journey.
