Acclaimed by audiences and critics alike for his strong communicative skills in numerous styles, exceptional use of the organ’s capabilities, and bold programming, Jonathan Ryan has emerged as one of North America’s premier young concert artists. Among the few organists distinguished with six first prize awards at major international and national competitions, his solo performances have taken him to prominent venues, conventions, festivals, and inaugurations across the United States and Europe. A native of Charlotte, NC, Jonathan grew up in a musical family and began playing the organ at age eight. He holds degrees from the Cleveland Institute of Music and the Eastman School of Music, where his primary organ teachers were Todd Wilson and David Higgs respectively, as well as the highest ranking professional certification from the American Guild of Organists, the Fellow certificate, and the Choirmaster certificate. Before joining the staff of Christ Church Greenwich in 2013, Jonathan's passion for church music and education saw him serve in director, conducting, and organist positions at the Episcopal Church of the Holy Spirit in Lake Forest, IL, St. John Cantius Church in Chicago, IL, and St. Anne Church in Rochester, NY. He has additionally served as Visiting Artist at St. James Cathedral Concerts in Chicago, and University Organist of the University of Rochester. He performs under the management of Karen McFarlane Artists. www.jonathan-ryan.com
